The European Data Portal is continuously developing new content and features. The latest upgrades of the portal are:

Interoperability as a goal

Information systems in public administration are complex and often difficult to develop. Therefore, Finlands Ministry of Finance has selected and put emphasis on expanding Enterprise Architecture in the public sector in Finland. Enterprise Architecture provides the proven set of tools and methods to deal with this complexity; it provides different but interlinked views while keeping the focus on the whole life-cycle of processes, information and systems.

The National Satellite Centre in Sodankylä Finland offers open environmental data

In Sodankylä, about 100 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, operates the National Satellite Data Centre of the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The centre provides services to Finnish and international customers. Near real time satellite images offer unlimited possibilities for different needs.

The content of open data guide has been expanded with internationally known best practices

The content of open data guide has been expanded with internationally known best practices concerning open data and the process of opening public sector information. Best practices created by Share-PSI thematic networ are based on the European Comission's Revised PSI Directive. Practices are aimed to support and harmonize the process of opening data in the public sector. They are defined on high-level to enable their implementation in actual national or local environments and designed to accelerate the enactment of the directive.

Democracy Hackathon Helsinki

A large Democracy Hackathon will be organised in Helsinki between 4-7 March 2016. The event joins together developers of new democracy enhancing tools and technologies. The weekend will start with a kick-off event on Friday 4th of March, following with hacking on Saturday and Sunday, and a wrap-up meeting on Monday 7th of March.  

"Metsä" won the All About Me visualisation competition

The Population Register Centre, Ministry of Finance and Aalto University’s Media Factory organised a competition for full-time students in universities of applied sciences and general universities.

The goal of the competition was to design a visualisation of citizens’ register data. The competition seeks new types of clear, lucid visual methods to present the data connected with individuals.

Open Finland Challenge Finalists 2015

This year, the Open Finland Challenge competition received a record 151 entries in 5 challenge categories – including competition entries from several countries. A total of 60 works have been selected as the finalists for competition. Open Finland Challenge looks for the best applications, services, concepts and ideas, which support active citizenship, improve services or enable a more open and efficient government.

European Data Portal officially launched

On Monday November 16th the European Data Portal was officially launched during the European Data Forum in Luxembourg. The European Data Forum (EDF) is a meeting place to discuss the challenges of Big Data and the emerging Data Economy and to develop suitable action plans for addressing these challenges.

Share-PSI Network Workshop in Berlin 25.-26.11.2015

The fifth workshop in the Share-PSI series is organised in Berlin 25-26.11.2015. The theme of the workshop is "Maximising interoperability - core vocabularies, location-aware data and more".

The workshop is explicitly interested in ideas, concepts and solutions that directly or indirectly address the interoperability of open data and PSI (Public Sector Information). Open Finland Challenge 2015: Seeking new data sources to Opendata.fi

Opendata.fi harvests datasets from

http://www.hri.fi/fi/ and http://paikkatietohakemisto.fi

On top of Opendata.fi there are several other web sites which contain open data but the data (or its metadata) is not available at Opendata.fi.

In this challenge we are looking for news ways and tools for open data integration between Finnish open data sources and Opendata.fi
