High-value dataset category introduced on Suomi.fi Open Data service

From now on, a high-value dataset category can be selected for all High-value datasets (HVDs) on Open Data. The following categories of high-value datasets are used on the Open Data service:

  1. Geospatial
  2. Earth observation and environment
  3. Meteorological
  4. Statistics
  5. Companies and company ownership
  6. Mobility

High-value datasets are defined in the European Commission Regulation 2023/138. They are public sector documents and information that, under the Open Data Directive, are considered to have particular value for society, the environment, and the economy. High-value datasets must be made available free of charge and in machine-readable form through APIs.

On the Open Data service, high-value datasets are marked with a star symbol and the text “high-value dataset” on the dataset page. You can view the high-value dataset category of a high-value dataset from its page under Additional Info. You can mark your dataset as a high-value dataset when creating a new dataset or when editing an existing dataset.

When creating a new dataset, first select Add Dataset on the Datasets page and the Create new dataset page opens. Under High-value dataset, select whether your dataset is a high-value dataset or not. If you mark your dataset as a high-value dataset, select one or more high-value dataset category which describes the data.

You can edit an existing dataset from its page by selecting Edit dataset. Under High-value dataset, select whether your dataset is a high-value dataset or not. If you mark your dataset as a high-value dataset, select one or more high-value dataset category which describes the data.

More information on high-value datasets is available on the European Commission’s website.
